Mentoring MATTERS
I was in my 30s when a woman in her early 20s approached me and asked, “Will you mentor me?” I panicked. I certainly didn’t feel qualified to be anyone’s mentor.
What Is Mentoring?
She was looking for an older Christian woman to do life with, to meet up once in awhile and talk about faith and living it out. When she asked me to mentor her, I panicked. I certainly didn’t feel qualified to be anyone’s mentor.
I look back at that FIRST MENTORING EXPERIENCE and learned some important things:
ONE:
Younger women crave relationships with older women, to learn what it looks like to walk daily with Jesus. They want to see the good, the bad, the ugly. It ALL matters.
Two:
Mentoring isn’t a formal activity; it’s relational and looks as different as one life to the next. The learning goes both ways—I learn as much about life and God from those I mentor.
Three:
Young women aren’t looking for perfection in a mentor; they’re looking for authenticity and a willingness to share what God is doing in their lives.
Four:
Mentoring is intentional discipleship, straight from the New Testament gospels.
WHY Mentor?
To build bridges between generations in our churches and our communities
To encourage and equip women in their specific gifts to serve Christ
To partner with God in His great commission of Matthew 28
To grow in our faith and be continual learners of the gospel

“Sitting in the midst of a heart breaking incomplete miscarriage, I am wondering, ‘Did Jodi write this for me?!’ Thank you for these words. Just what I needed while I am begging God for comfort during this emotionally and physically painful season.”

MY PRAYER FOR YOU…
I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts, living within you as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love; and may you be able to feel and understand, as all God’s children should, how long, how wide, how deep, and how high his love really is; and to experience this love for yourselves, though it is so great that you will never see the end of it or fully know or understand it. And so at last you will be filled up with God himself.
